There are now three main galleries in my Prints section for potential collectors. More to come. Prints are made and shipped to you directly. So you can go to Prints here on my site or browse the collections on my darkroom.com page.
You may have been following weekly installments for Postcards from America, a compilation of my personal views of the US from the ‘before-times’. I’m up to fifteen images (rolling out three per week for five weeks) and growing. Many years ago, one of my dearest mentors, a little-known but phenomenal and poetic Czech photographer, looked at my Eastern Europe work and said something like ‘very nice, but I’d like to see what you can do with your own home’. So this is for him.
New York City is Beautiful just dropped. It’s an experimental series from several years ago when I was looking for a new visual approach to one of the most photographed cities in the world. The title is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, for a city that has moved from the outward physical dysfunction of my youth to more recent existential dread (COVID, climate, authoritarianism) under the carnival surface. You want color, you got it. And no, I’d rather not give away the secret, very lo-fi, technique used (an idea I actually got from one of my photo students at the time). See if you can guess! DM me, I’ll tell you if you’re right.
Early on I decided Nairobi was a city of contradictions and I haven’t really changed my mind. This set represents a select sampling from my body of work there, trying to understand and come to terms with the place that was home for a year and a half. Frankly I haven’t decided yet what I’ll do with it. Need to let the images sit for a bit first.
There’s also a World section with a grand total of one image so far, an older favorite from Stockholm.
My standard sizes will fit standard frames. Prices are meant to be affordable but what the biz calls ‘respectable’.
Yes, that time has come. The time any artist dreads.
I’m asking you to buy something.
Of course you don’t have to. Or you could do it later, whenever. I would at least love if you check it out.
I could use the support as things remain unpredictable on my work front for the foreseeable future. Huge thanks to my OG paid supporters from Substack, for you a special offer: if you let me know a photo you want I’ll send you the original file free, so you can print at cost at your leisure and as often as you want for personal use.
Since moving off Substack, this newsletter will be forever free.
Thanks and enjoy your Sunday! Please let me know any questions or problems.
